Pasta Notes

If it's difficult for you to find whole grain pasta in your local grocery store, Amazon has a burgeoning supply. Other options are health food stores and brands such as DeCecco, DeBoles, or Eden 100 Percent Organic Spaghetti or linguine. They are less chewy and gritty. DeBoles adds some Jerusalem artichoke to lighten its texture. Some people find that whole grain pasta tastes better with sauces that go beyond the usual tomato.

You can also try pasta made of spelt or kamut, two ancient whole grains that are making a comeback. They're relatives of wheat, but are well tolerated by wheat-sensitive people.

Expect whole-grain to be the next big trend in new food products.

Getting Started with Whole Grain Pasta

If you are new to using whole grain pasta, use half traditional pasta and half whole grain in standard pasta recipes at first. This is a great way to get the goodness of grains while barely noticing any difference in your pasta dishes.
